Easter Basket Stuffers

Selection of Easter basket stuffers for kids

Most holidays have become excuses for kids to amass giant stashes of sugary treats. Easter is probably the worst, with chocolate eggs, marshmallow Peeps, and other sugary treats filling their Easter baskets, my kids often experience post-egg-hunt sugar comas that can last for days!

I’m constantly searching for ways to make holidays healthier without ruining the fun. I love Easter baskets and egg hunts and have no desire to do away with the tradition, so last year I decided to replace about 75% of the candy with little toys and games.

It was a HUGE hit, they didn’t even miss the sugary treats. And it elevated Easter into the upper echelon of Holidays, my kids rank it right up there with Christmas and Halloween now!

If you’re looking for ways to eliminate some of the sugar from your Easter baskets and egg hunts this year, take a look at my list of non-edible Easter basket stuffers instead. I tried to include something for every age and interest.

Play-Doh Spring Eggs

Age: 2 years up

Everyone loves Play-Doh! It’s been my go-to “stuffer” for just about every holiday for the last 5 years; Christmas Stockings, Halloween Haunts, and Easter baskets.

This spring themed set is cute but honestly, you could probably make your own Play-Doh eggs much cheaper. Just buy a 10 pack of the 2 ounce cans, take the dough out, and stuff it in some plastic eggs. Voila! Instant Play-Doh Easter eggs. You won’t get the cute Play-Doh logos, but you will get more than double the amount of eggs for around the same price.

Hatchimals CollEGGtibles, Secret Surprise Playset with 3 Hatchimals (Styles May Vary)

CollEGGtibles, Secret Surprise Playset with 3 Hatchimals

CollEGGtibles are awesome and kids really love them. First, they get to “unbox” the various surprises inside the eggs, peeling away each layer to reveal cute CollEGGtibles characters, stickers, and unique accessories for use with the characters.

Once they’ve uncovered all the surprises they get to assemble the pieces to create a fun little scene inside the egg. When the scene is to their liking, they snap the clear egg lid on and display the finished product in their room.

These really are the ultimate collectible toy and are a bargain for all the joy they bring.

I really can’t do them justice in this short little blurb so if it sounds like something your kids may be interested in go over to Amazon and check them out for yourself.

Scruff-A-Luvs Blossom Bunnies

Age: 36 months – 15 years

From scruffy to fluffy! If you aren’t familiar with Scruff-A-Luvs they’re a great concept that teaches kids responsibility and compassion. When you first get them, they are bundled up in a ball with matted fur. But once kids wash and dry them they transform into fluffy plush animals. And the more kids brush and care for them the cuter they become. Little Live makes a bunch of different models, but for Easter, you will definitely want to get the Blossom Bunny version.

LEGO Holiday Easter Egg Hunt Building Kit (145 Pieces)

LEGO Holiday Easter Egg Hunt Building Kit (145 Pieces)

Age: 7 years and up

Okay, I will be the first to admit that this is not the most dynamic LEGO set on the market, but it is an Easter-themed LEGO set, which makes it a perfect addition to any kid’s Easter basket. The set includes a bunch of iconic easter items and 2 mini-figures, an adult and a child. Is it just me or does it look like they repurposed the Ron Weasley Harry Potter LEGO figure for this set?

LEGO BrickHeadz Easter Bunny 40271 Building Kit (126 Pieces)

LEGO BrickHeadz Easter Bunny Building Kit (126 Pieces)

Age: 10 – 21 years

Another cool Easter-themed Lego building set. The LEGO BrickHeadz Easter Bunny features movable ears and a detachable carrot and bucket. It also includes 2 buildable Easter eggs and flowers.

This set is recommended for slightly older kids, but as with most LEGO sets, parents tend to go slightly younger than the recommendations. Just be EXTREMELY careful when buying LEGOS for young kids as they pose a VERY real choking hazard.

Paintable Butterfly Magnets

Give your kids a fun activity to keep them busy while you cook Easter diner. These paintable magnets come with everything your kids need to create adorable butterfly DIY magnets; paint, stickers, gems, and glitter glue.

This Easter Bunny set is perfect to keep kids busy on Easter Sunday. The set comes with a big plastic tube for storage. You can also get the Easter Chick construction set so your bunny won’t get lonely.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game, Now UNO fun includes the world of Minecraft, Multicolor, Basic Pack

UNO Minecraft Card Game

Age: 7 – 11 years (my kid was beating me regularly at 5!)

Minecraft AND UNO! These are 2 of my kid’s favorite things. Okay, neither of them really has much to do with Easter, but the look on your kid’s faces when they see these cards in their baskets will be priceless. This is pretty much the same UNO we all know and love but also includes special “Creeper” cards.

If your kids aren’t Minecraft fans (highly unlikely) you can also get UNO in various other fun versions – here are some of my favorites:

Melissa & Doug Secret Decoder Spy Bundle
Melissa & Doug Secret Decoder Spy Bundle

Secret Decoder Spy Bundle

Age: 7 – 10 years

I used these last Christmas as stocking stuffers and they were a HUGE hit, so, I figured they would be just as effective as Easter basket stuffers. These activity books let kids play spy games and solve mysteries, mazes, and puzzles. The secret decoder wheel and magic reveal pen will keep kids busy for hours cracking codes and solving whodunits. Do take the age recommendation seriously though as kids under 7 may have a hard time even grasping the concept of these puzzle books.

Melissa & Doug On-the-Go Color Blast Bundle: Fairy, Princess and Sea Life

On-the-Go Color Blast Bundle: Fairy, Princess and Sea Life

Age: 36 months – 8 years

Another great Melissa & Doug product, but this one is for younger kids. These fun “Color Blast” booklets use a “magic” no-mess pen to color in pictures revealing vibrant colors, details, and patterns. The ink in the markers is invisible anywhere else but creates instant color on the pages. I think these would make fantastic Easter gifts for a 3-5-year-old, but kids over 5 may prefer a standard coloring book as they have more control.

The Melissa & Doug Water Wow Bundle is also very cool if your kids prefer watercolors.

Squawkin' Egg Droppin' Mama Hen Interactive Stuffed Animal, 10" Interactive Stuffed Animals Animals & Nature

Squawkin’ Egg Droppin’ Mama Hen Interactive Stuffed Animal

Age: Not Listed (reviewers say under 7)

Kids get a big kick out of this singing, dancing, egg-laying Easter hen. Great to teach little ones where eggs come from. It gets amazing reviews on Amazon and parents say their kids will play with it for hours. It does eat batteries pretty quickly though so be sure to stock up on double A batteries so she won’t poop out and disappoint your kids on Easter morning.

LEGO Minifigures - DC Super Heroes Series - New Sealed Blind Bags - Random Set of 6 (71026)

LEGO Minifigures Blind Bags – DC Super Heroes Series

Age: 5 years and up

LEGO blind packs are, in my humble opinion, one of the best “stuffer” gifts you can give a kid. They get the initial excitement of seeing the gleaming LEGO package, then if that weren’t enough, there’s the exhilaration of tearing open the pack to reveal the surprise inside. What baffles me is that they are never disappointed – there is always a “YES” or ‘SCORE’ even if they already have 5 duplicates.

This series of LEGO mini-figures has 20 different collectible characters from all their favorite DC movies including Batman, Aquaman, The Joker, Superman, and Wonder Woman. You get a random selection of 6 Minifigures, each is individually packaged.

LEGO Minifigures - DC Super Heroes Series - New Sealed Blind Bags - Random Set of 6 (71026)

If you want to buy a single DC blind bag then follow this link – but you will pay a ridiculously over-inflated price for them!

You can also get LEGO blind bags with Disney characters, or their brand new Series 21 Set with fun LEGO characters.

Little People Fisher Price DC Super Friends Exclusive Figure Pack of 7

Hot Wheels 50-Car Pack of 1:64 Scale Vehicles Individually Packaged , Gift for Collectors & Kids Ages 3 Years Old & Up

Hot Wheels 10-Pack

Age: 3 to 6 years (and collectors of all ages!)

Did you really think we were gonna get thru an article about the best “Stuffers” without Hot Wheels showing up at least once? Not a chance, not when I’m making the list! Cheap, durable, and just plain fun, these little metal die-cast bundles of joy have been in every Easter basket and Christmas stocking since my kids were 2 years old.

These look great in an Easter basket, but they are also fantastic as a hidden surprise in an egg hunt – they just happen to fit perfectly inside a large plastic egg!

You can buy these one at a time but it would hardly be worth the shipping cost which is why I listed the 10 pack here. If you want them in individual packages (better for baskets) CLICK HERE.

If you’re planning a large-scale Easter Egg hunt with a lot of kids you may want to get the Hot Wheels 24-Car Random Assortment Party Pack or if you want to go crazy check out the Hot Wheels 50-Car Pack – it’s a great value for the money with cars costing under a buck apiece!
